Second Monday in Lent

Today’s Psalms both have a similar opening line:

“Have Mercy on me…”
“Be Merciful to me…”

Something we could all use more of in life.

Feb 13: Feast of Saint Absalom – That they may all be One

20 ‘I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

His Holiness Pope Francis and the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church met for the first time… ever earlier this week in Cuba. Today’s Gospel seems particularly important in light of that meeting as we strive toward One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

Also, read about Absalom Jones, he’s got an incredible story.

A Prayer for Lawyers

Sir Thomas More, patron saint of lawyers.
Sir Thomas More, patron saint of lawyers.

Almighty God, who is great in Power and Justice:  Grant that we may be effective advocates for our clients, whether they be an orphan or a widow; that we may uphold the rights of the lowly and destitute.  Give us wisdom, patience, and courage in representing our clients and advocating for them with the courts. For doing righteousness and justice is more acceptable to you than Sacrifice. Help us to rescue the oppressed and defend their cause, and in all that we do show mercy, justice, and faith, to the glory of thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Law School is hard.

It’s amazing when you see an entire semester’s of work reduced down to one letter. In that letter rests your entire future. It’s ridiculous.

oh well.
